ICRA 2024 RoboMaster University Sim2Real Challenge

Results
Achieved 3rd position globally among 20+ teams, at the Finals of ICRA 2024 RMUS Challenge.
Became the first ever Indian team to qualify for the finals round since the beginning of this competition in 2021.

About the team
The interdisciplinary student team, CAIRobotics, comprised of the following students in carrying out the research and development activities the Centre for AI, IoT and Robotics to participate in RoboMaster University Sim2Real (RMUS) Challenge organized by International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA) 2024 under the supervision of Prof. M. Sreekumar.
Team CAIRobotics: Chayan Maiti, Deep Patel, Radhika Mittal, Sibi M, Yash Kumar Sahu (Team Lead).

For the final round of the competition we were allowed to send our program and code files online and judges made arrangements to deploy the same on the real robot for final participation.

About ICRA and RMUS Challenge

The 2024 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA 2024) is the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society’s flagship conference. In the research community it is considered as the most prestigious robotics conference. The conference was held from May 13th to 17th, 2024, in Yokohama, Japan. It is a premier event in the field of robotics and automation, offering a platform for researchers, practitioners, and industry professionals to exchange ideas, present research findings, and explore the latest advancements in robotics technology.

The RoboMaster University Sim2Real Challenge (“RMUS”) at its core allows participants to win points by rearranging minerals using fully automated RoboMaster EPs that have been modified officially. The match lasts for five minutes with a sim2real-based format, where robots rearrange minerals based on the information shown on the exchange tags to earn points. The objective of the challenge is to assess how well a program completed on a simulation platform can be operated in real application environments. Participants will be ranked according to their total points won.
